Where you left me
'Where you left me' is a hauntingly beautiful collection
of polaroids filled with ambivalent emotion. Like the best
jazz records that seduce us with their sound before we fully
understand their content, Andrea Schraven's polaroids seduce
us first with their contrasting colours and formalist shapes.
After that we notice that very particular North American light
and on the third viewing we start to read the emotion in German-born
Schraven's images. Boredom, curiosity, fascination, and admiration
for certain spaces and architectural forms, but also ambivalence,
loneliness, and longing play their part. This is a collection of images
to be treasured, the more you invest in them, the more they will reward
you, so dip your cup deep and drink often.
