Liminal
Nishant Shukla is interested in the notion of travel and the journey, acting as a metaphor for life. In this series he explores the concept of ‘liminality’ as a temporary state of being. Shukla is fascinated by transitory phases in which travellers are ‘in-between’ the end of one journey and the start of another. He photographs at train stations, which act as portals in which his liminal subjects continually hover between a state of vulnerability and possibility.
Shukla, a British-born artist spent his formative years living between India, Saudi Arabia and the U.K. He has exhibited for freshfacedandwildeyed’09 at The Photographers’ Gallery, Nikon Discovery Awards and various group shows in London and Delhi. Nishant was the recipient of the ‘Vice Chancellors’ Award’ from TVU to pursue an MA in Photography. He continues to produce work based in the U.K. and India. info.nishantshukla@gmail.com nishantshukla.com |
